5. रणदुर्मदशत्रुवधोदितदुर्धरनिर्जरशक्तिभृते

अयि रणदुर्मदशत्रुवधोदितदुर्धरनिर्जरशक्तिभृते
चतुरविचारधुरीणमहाशिवदूतकृतप्रमथाधिपते ।
दुरितदुरीहदुराशयदुर्मतिदानवदूतकृतान्तमते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ५ ॥

अयि (ayi): O!

रणदुर्मदशत्रुवधोदितदुर्धरनिर्जरशक्तिभृते (raṇa-durmada-śatru-vadhoditā-durdhara-nirjara-śakti-bhṛte):

रण (raṇa): battle दुर्मद (durmada): arrogant, intoxicated with pride (dur = bad, mada = intoxication, pride) शत्रु (śatru): enemy वध (vadha): killing, slaying उदित (udita): arisen, emerged दुर्धर (durdhara): difficult to subdue, invincible (dur = difficult, dhara = to hold, to control) निर्जर (nirjara): imperishable, undiminishing शक्ति (śakti): power, strength भृते (bhṛte): one who holds or possesses

Combined meaning: “O you who hold the invincible and undiminishing power that arose from slaying the arrogant enemies in battle!” - This highlights Durga’s immense power and her emergence as a warrior goddess to vanquish those who threaten the universe.

चतुरविचारधुरीणमहाशिवदूतकृतप्रमथाधिपते ( catura-vicāra-dhurīṇa-mahāśiva-dūta-kṛta-pramathādhipate):

चतुर (catura): clever, skillful विचार (vicāra): thought, deliberation धुरीण (dhurīṇa): leader, chief महाशिव (mahāśiva): great Shiva दूत (dūta): messenger कृत (kṛta): made, appointed प्रमथ (pramatha): a gana (attendant) of Shiva, often depicted as a fierce warrior अधिपते (adhipate): lord, master

Combined meaning: “O you who made Pramatha, the great attendant of Shiva, a leader of clever thinking, your messenger, and a lord!” - This suggests that Durga has empowered Pramatha with intelligence and authority to act on her behalf.

दुरितदुरीहदुराशयदुर्मतिदानवदूतकृतान्तमते (durita-durīha-durāśaya-durmati-dānava-dūta-kṛtānta-mate):
