पदकमलं करुणानिलये वरिवस्यति योऽनुदिनं सुशिवे
अयि कमले कमलानिलये कमलानिलयः स कथं न भवेत् ।
तव पदमेव परम्पदमित्यनुशीलयतो मम किं न शिवे
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १८ ॥
पदकमलं (pada-kamalam): lotus feet (pada = foot, kamala = lotus) करुणानिलये (karuṇā-nilaye): abode of compassion (karuṇā = compassion, nilaya = abode) वरिवस्यति (vari-vasyati): resides, dwells (vari = best, excellent, vasyati = dwells) योनुदिनं (yoni-udinaṁ): every day (yoni = source, origin, udinaṁ = day) शशिवे (śaśi-ve): O moon-like one! (śaśi = moon, -ve = vocative suffix) अयि (ayi): O! कमले (kamale): O lotus-like one! (kamala = lotus, -e = vocative suffix) कमलानिलये (kamala-nilaye): abode of the lotus (kamala = lotus, nilaya = abode) कमलानिलया (kamala-nilaya): O one who dwells in the lotus! सकथं (sakathāṁ): how indeed? न (na): not भवेत् (bhavet): will be, would be तव (tava): your पदम् (padam): feet, abode एव (eva): only, indeed परम्पदम् (param-padam): supreme abode, the ultimate goal (parama = supreme, pada = abode) इति (iti): thus, in this way अनुशीलयतः (anuśīlayataḥ): for one who contemplates or meditates upon मम (mama): my किं (kiṁ): what? न (na): not शिवे (śive): in Shiva (the auspicious one) जय जय (jaya jaya): victory, victory हे (he): O! महिषासुरमर्दिनि (mahiṣāsura-mardini): slayer of Mahishasura (the buffalo demon) रम्यकपर्दिनि (ramya-kapardini): with beautiful hair शैलसुते (shailasute): daughter of the mountain Combined Meaning:
“O moon-like one, whose lotus feet, the abode of compassion, are the dwelling place of the best (of beings) every day! O lotus-like one, who dwells in the lotus, how indeed would my [mind], contemplating that your abode is the supreme abode, not be in Shiva (the auspicious one)? Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, with beautiful hair, daughter of the mountain!”
